Accent Art Glass Presents: About the Artist
Lying in wooded seclusion north of Seattle, Washington, Rick Jarvis and Alison Baker's studio is surrounded by a
stillness broken only by the sound of birds, distant neighbors, and soft rain. Well-suited for creativity, it’s where
the two have forged a dynamic partnership to develop a new method of creativity with glass.Their unique art is created by blending molten glass. Hundreds of individual pieces of stained glass are placed in a kiln, and the temperature is raised until the glass is molten. At around 1700 degrees, the glass becomes fluid-like. By employing a variety of proprietary methods, more glass is layered. Knowing how and when to introduce the glass into the kiln, the pair is able to create the patterns and layering that distinguishes the work. They call their technique kinetic casting. It allows a unique kind of color movement, and offers a great deal of creative freedom.
I make these pieces because I love them. I enjoy just looking at them, studying their depths, seeing the pictures within
them. Its like watching billowy clouds on a spring day. If you can hold one of my pieces and look at it and feel how I feel
about them, then I have accomplished what I set out to do.
