Accent Art Glass Presents: About the Artist

ANTONIO-GARCIA STUDIO

JESUS GARCIA

Jesus Garcia was born into a family of glass blowers in the town of Guadalajara, Mexico. His father, Teodoro Garcia, is a well-respected master glass blower in the fine tradition of Mexican craftsman.

At the age of 12, Jesus began his training at the very factory his father worked, learning the craft at his side, and eventually earning the lofty title of master glass blower at the young age of 17.

Jesus emigrated to the United States in 1980 and went to work for two very well established factories in Southern California. In 1994 Jesus set out on his own and founded the Antonio-Garcia Studio, a family-run business.

All of the glasswork in the Antonio-Garcia line is handblown by Jesus himself. He does not use any type of "molds" or "crack-off torches" to expedite the work, therefore the pieces are completely hand-made, start to finish. Because of the handcrafted process, each piece has its own individual character. The level of expertise, however, is evident in the fine quality and general consistancy of all of the work created.

The Antonio-Garcia line encompasses a wide range of glass-blowing techniques and includes such items as bowls, platters, vases, perfume bottles, glasses, pitchers and paperweights.
